Über den Autor

David Wise was born in Manhattan, New York on May 10, 1930. While attending Columbia College, he worked as a campus stringer for The New York Herald Tribune. He joined the Herald Tribune's staff in 1951 and later moved to Washington, where he covered politics and the Kennedy White House. He was mehr anzeigen named Washington bureau chief in 1963 and served in that role until the paper closed in 1966. He wrote several books with Thomas B. Ross including The U-2 Affair and The Invisible Government. His other nonfiction books included The Seven Million Dollar Spy and The Politics of Lying: Government Deception, Secrecy, and Power, which won a George Polk Award. He also wrote three spy novels including The Children's Game. He contributed to numerous magazines including Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, The New Republic, and Smithsonian. Sorry to say not very well written. But, fascinating story, very worthwhile read. Oh. And. Just horrible: the man, his actions, and the obliviousness of the FBI (which I'm not bashing; just noting). Still nothing compares to the Cherkashin book so far.

Robert Hanssen was perhaps the most costly spy of the Cold War. He was responsible for the betrayal of more than 50 FBI/CIA agents of which 2 were killed and another 12 missing. The dollar cost of the betrayals were in the millions. I'm not really one to read about spies, real or imagined; but this was an excellent book from beginning to end. The arrogance of Hanssen was evident and clear and so were his sexual perversions. He truly led a double life: the good Catholic family man and then double-agent porn purveyor. I got this book from a friend or I would have never read it. 454 pages 4 stars.… (mehr)
