The various essays in the book examine the evolution and nature of the tsarist administrative apparatus in Siberia, the fur trade, the Siberian Aboriginal people before and after Russian conquest, tsarist Russia in colonial America, the use of Siberia as a penal colony and the impact of exile, vagrancy, and crime on the Aboriginal people as well as economic and political development in Siberia, and Siberia’s role in the Bolshevik Revolution and Civil War.
An interesting, if somewhat dry, history of Russia, notwithstanding the editor’s obvious Trotskyist views.… (mehr)
