Lovely and quiet and beautifully illustrated. A great book for celebrating the solstice, or just the turn of seasons. The only thing I'm not sure about is the line -- no one is different and everyone's alone (? alone? why?) but I haven't had a chance to listen to the song yet, so it may make more sense in that context.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Almost a Full Moon is a beautifully illustrated book depicting a family preparing soup for a what turns into a community feast. I enjoyed the artwork, as I love illustrations that have a country winter feel to them. I'm just not sure how I felt about the rhyming story fell in with the art. It was a little disjointed and I felt like there wasn't enough to fully tell the story behind the illustrations. I would have liked to have had a little more to read or gone the opposite and had it be a picture only book. However, the illustrations were quality enough to give a 3 star review.… (mehr)

Almost a Full Moon is a story about a grandmother and grandson making soup in the cold of the winter for guests, no matter who shows up. The interesting part is seeing who arrives at this impromptu community feast. The text was in rhyming format taken from a song and in some spots did not seem to really fit with the illustrations. I wish there would have been more story behind this beautifully illustrated book. The guests would all have had a story about being in the forest.

I loved the artwork, as it made you feel like you were there looking in the window at this event. This book would be wonderful with now text, just a picture only book. Children can make up their own story as they read and look at this book. My grandson was not interested in the words, but he sure loved the pictures and pointed out all sorts of things. I am not sure who I would recommend this book to, but it could certainly be used to start conversations about sharing, welcoming others or just as a story starter.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
