An excellent biography and general history book covering the life and work of Emmy Carlsson Evald who was not only instrumental in establishing the Lutheran Woman's Missionary Society, but played a key role as a tireless advocate for the woman's right to vote in the early suffragette movement. In addition, if you are a fan the city of Chicago and some of its history as it relates to the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s you'll recognize many of the locations that are mentioned in this book. Wyman integrates Evald’s biography into the times and issues from just before Evald’s birth in 1857 to her death in 1946. Evald was an accomplished woman. She marched with Susan B. Anthony in support of American women’s right to vote. She established the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary Society with a worldwide mission to support education and health care for women. She was a tireless crusader for the rights and wellbeing of women everywhere. This book is more than a biography. It is an example of family history. Wyman is the great-granddaughter of Evald.
