YKids publishing's manga book on Nelson Mandela is a very unique and special book and really interests me. This book is based on Mandela's determination of ending racism in Africa. The most important and special feature of this book is the way they have displayed the information to the reader. It is all put in a manga/comic style. This makes a interesting read for younger readers without the full pages of space by space text which makes it a very unique book. They have chosen a good way of attracting reader's attention. Even though Mandela has been sentenced to life in prison, his thoughts of freedom has never changed. It is because of Mandela's determination that today we have ended racism around the world. As he says "As long as i'm alive, i can continue the mission, even from prison!".
He is a once in a lifetime human being and he reminds me of other great people such as Gandhi and Mother Teresa.… (mehr)
Part of the Manga Literary Classics, this is an odd combination of traditional manga elements and the classic novel. The story is adapted from the novel Daddy-Long-Legs, and is well-edited to give young readers the idea of the characters and the flavor of the story. However the story was originally written for older readers, seeing as it is about falling in love, courting, and college. I am not sure how enticing this would be for the young reader who might otherwise pick up a graphic novel, and I am not sure that an older reader would be assigned Daddy-Long-Legs and go find the manga edition. However, the Manga Literary Classics series has a lot of other classic novels in it, and so students might want to read the whole series. The art is well-suited to Judy Abbott – she is perky, strong and funny, and the chibi art is perfect for her personality. This is a good adaptation, and I think the series is strong, but this book might not be suited to young children.… (mehr)
