Eva Zimet

Not being a huge poetry connoisseur, I requested this book to expand my horizons and get into some poetry. Okay, wow, I really loved the diversity in this small collection. As others mentioned, some were very uncomfortable, intense and even disturbing, but I think that was the point. Great art makes us feel, even if it isn't the happy, sunshine-y emotion we sometimes hope for. Somehow Zimet really captures both the hope and despair in both addiction and recovery ... recovery being HARD work and often times, a lot of struggle. There too, few find their way to addiction because life was easy, but mostly because it was very difficult. Zimet walks a fine line here and I did not walk away depressed, but more or less, curious, hopeful and with the knowledge that the only way to face life's hardships is head on; and poetry can be a way to do just that.
