Über meine Bibliothek
Note to self: "Wishlist" = to buy (for work, mostly). "To Read" = borrow from library.

July 2011: most "your library" books are now redesignated to be books I do own. Exceptions: I still need to go through and systematically indicate which Donna Leon, Peter Tremayne, Ellis Peters, and etc. I have and haven't read yet.

Since I started, LT has made it possible for me to list books on a "wishlist," books in my library, read but not owned, etc. Not every entry is currently updated to the subsets that are available now (June 2010).

About my tags (especially for historical mysteries and other mystery / detective series I follow or intend to investigate this summer):

"first" or "start" indicates first in the series;

"next" indicates the next book I will read in the series -- I try to read series in order.

Books further along in a series generally won't be listed in LT until they're "next" (unless I've read them already). IE, a book that's listed here that's part of a series but has no tags is likely to be a book I've already read (perh out of sequence).

"Star" ratings and "favorite authors" will usually be for fiction only.

I'm thinking about cataloging some CDs (mostly choral and early instrumental music) and I'll be looking around to see how other LT'ers do that.

I haven't completely cataloged my professional (teaching) library yet (see above), or books re: religion/theology.

I haven't cataloged everything I've ever read, but I've tried to catalog (almost) everything since joining LT, and to catalog the major, memorable books that I'd read and liked in the decades before joining, especially in order to keep track of series and to record books I loved as a child and young adult.

I prefer viewing style "A," by authors.

March 09: When adding new works to library, sort by viewing style "D," sorted by entry date: they're easier to find and tag that way.

June 2010: Several dozen entries here from NMAI (Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian) and NBM (National Building Museum) from notes I took in their bookstores in late Dec of 2009. I love browsing in museum bookstores but can't decide on the ONE book to get, so I've tried to discipline myself to make a list and use the library. These should be on "wishlist."
Über mich
I teach English (Junior AmLit and Senior AP), writing, and journalism at a public high school in New England. I love choral music and early music, bluegrass and folk.

Looking for good YA books to suggest to senior high readers who might be reading at a middle school level (for example), and for inspirational, "how to," curriculum, or public policy books re: education, tech in ed, ed reform. Also seeking books about serving the range of students at my school, increasing engagement and motivation in particular.

I would be very interested in hearing from other lit or English teachers about ways you've expanded your classroom canons.

This fall my students will read more nonfiction, a la Kelly Gallagher's "Article of the Week" (see his book Readicide).

Professional influences on my classroom: Jim Burke, Jeff Wilhelm, Kelly Gallagher, Robyn Johnson, Carol Jago, Nancy Atwood, the Folger Institute's teaching method for plays by Shakespeare (the "Shakespeare Set Free" series) and others whose names you'll see here.

Additional personal reading interests: biographies of musicians, writers, other artistic or inspiring people; environment and food policy; alternate energy sources; making life choices that are truly and effectively green (rather than choices that make us feel good but have less impact); future of the book, the internet, influence of social media on society, and other rapid changes we're seeing.

Interested in (liberal, progressive, generally protestant, inclusive congregations) theology and church history / future. Congregational growth, spiritual development.

Since it's summer, I'm looking forward to lots of historical mysteries for recreation when I'm not prepping for my fall classes!
