MARGUERITE HELMERS is Rosebush Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Her book Harry Clarke’s War: Ireland’s Memorial Records, 1914-1918 was published by the Irish Academic Press in December 2015. She is the co-author of Defining Visual Rhetorics (2004), several edited works on visual culture and travel writing, and is the series editor of the Visual Rhetoric Series at Parlor Press. Her recent publications include articles on the First World War in the Journal of War and Culture Studies, The Space Between, and a forthcoming book titled Languages and the First World War: Memory and Representation (Palgrave, 2015). A past fellow at the Center for Twentieth Century Studies and the Institute for Research in the Humanities at UW Madison, in 2015 she was a fellow at the Humanities Institute, University College Dublin.
