Hi, My name is Christie and I am a Bibliophile. Loosing myself in a story is just one reason I love books. I love looking at them, holding them, thinking about them, and especially their smell as they age. Now that I've found Library Thing, I've discovered a new reason for loving them. The act of recording them and classifying them is a kind of meditation for me. Being able to use the information I've learned so I can organize my collection like a true library allows me to display to the world how much they mean to me.

While studying graphic design I discovered a new aspect to love about books: their design. Not just the cover, but the layout of the text, the typefaces used, chapter headings, and spacing are things I now take the time to notice and appreciate when they are executed well. 

The down side is that when not done well they jump off the page and stop me in my tracks. Critiquing book design has become so distracting that shortly after starting a new book I have to decide if I'll take notes on the design or ignore it entirely and simply enjoy the story. I've even stopped reading books because I dislike the design so much that I can't focus on the text. Luckily I enjoy book design enough that I'm willing to deal with the challenges learning about it has brought to my reading.
