LOTS of history, mostly ancient western. Quite a bit of science, philosophy, geography, and military strategy. (Lots of economics, as well, boring as it is to most.) Also the REALLY classic stuff like Plutarch and Arrian.

Of course I am a huge Shakespeare fan, but my fiction writing influences are modern.

I live in sunny Michigan (USA), write historical fiction, and read just about everything. I love nothing more than to explore the human experience. I have done so with The Sword of Hannibal and The Wrath of Alexander the Great.
