Über meine Bibliothek
My leisure reading of choice is mystery and quiet horror, especially ghost stories. I also have a hefty quantity of textbooks and literary analysis from my teaching days. I dabble in comparative religion and mythology, so you'll see some of that. I'm also a sucker for reading lists, so you'll often see tags of mine that refer to some list I'm trying to read my way through (ML top 100, for instance). You'll also sometimes see the tag "passing notes" which is the name of my column and means I read and reviewed it for the paper.
Über mich
I'm a recovering college English instructor and the executive director of a small-town non-profit that provides financial support for low-income families. I also write the library column for the local paper. From time to time, my "reviews" here may simply be a link to the newspaper website.

I like cottage cheese, The Muppet Show, bourbon, and the color spruce, not necessarily in that order.

A note regarding my "handle." Bentley is my last name. In my teaching days, I taught college freshmen. Since they were new to college, there was always some confusion as to what to call me. I am not a doctor, nor was I a professor, but inevitably they would call me one or the other, and I would have to correct them. (I had colleagues who would simply accept the unintentional promotion for the whole semester, which I always found smarmy somehow.) When asked what I preferred, I would say, "I prefer The Bentley, rather like "The Queen," but I guess I'll answer to Mrs. Bentley." It has subsequently become my handle everywhere I'm online just because it's never already been taken.
