Info about the school is courtesy of Becka Birman:

Kpando Community Inclusive School

-Headmaster- Mr. Agbele Issac King

-Number of Teachers- 6 (plus two additional staff members, one cook and one groundskeeper)

-Number of Students- around 60 students are enrolled in this school. However, due to the break down of the school bus, combined with many of these students limited mobility, only around ten students are attending the school on a daily basis. The school is in the process of finishing up its dormitory, with only a few last minute touches left to be completed. There has already been a large interest in the boarding option, with over 50 additional students requesting admission to the boarding program. This is due to the fact that in Kpando (and the majority of Ghana) disabilities are looked at as a disease and/or result of witchcraft.

-Number of Classrooms- The students range in age from 5 years old through adult. The students do not have set classrooms, rather they move around from subject to subject based on their interests, abilities, and special needs. We have three indoor classrooms in addition to covered outdoor learning areas.

-Currently we have about 50 books in the school, we do not have a library or any sort of reading/ICT room at this time. These books are for the most part unusable as they were a donation of old high school text books, which are much too complex for our students as none of our students are reading anything above simple picture book level.

-Additional information- The school was founded as a private school, as the founder/current headmaster wanted to give his own special needs child an environment to grow and reach the fullest of her potential. Due to limited resources the school was absorbed by the Ghana Educational Service in 2000.

This account is run by Books Matter. We send donated books to Ghana schools where books are very scarce. We pay for shipping with money raised on our website. Thanks to LT and many members for your support.

These books were shipped on May 3, 2014 and arrived in Ghana in early July. They have been picked up and delivered to the school. Due to the small number of students in the school at the present time, we have only shipped several dozen books. We will add to that amount in future shipments if there is a need at the school.
