It started with lots of SF, in the golden era back in the 70's. Later on I got into Penguin Modern Classics - especially European authors: Camus, Kafka, Sartre etc. Also keen on travel literature, particularly anything based in France, my spiritual home.Made the mistake of giving away lots of books to charity when I moved house in the 80's - lots of stuff I wish I'd kept. Maybe one day i'll find them again, thanks to the web.Currently operating out of a very small office at home, surrounded by junk - piles of vinyl records, books, magazines, stereo players, computer disks, ancient cups of coffee, football programmes, cassettes,my daughter's ballet clothes! and shoeboxes full of maps. The online catalog is basically my books, but there are also my wife's books, plus the kids. As usual there is a pile of unread books in here - i vow never to run out of reading material!

Frustrated writer of short stories and attempted novellas, travelogues, journals, diaries, and critical pieces. Would be voracious reader, if I had more time. Things just get in the way - work, family, music, football, cinema, travelling, and of course internet research, including this site. Married with 2 teenagers living in small town in Devon far from the maddening crowds.Lover of all things French. And maps.Slowly going insane to the sound of the waves crashing out on the nearby beach. Approaching fifty with trepidation.
