- Gerard Beirne bio: Gerard Beirne is an Irish author who has lived in Canada for over ten years. He currently lives in Fredericton, NB, where he has recently been appointed Writer-in-Residence at UNB for 2008/2009.
His collection of poetry Digging My Own Grave (Daedalus Press, Ireland) was runner-up in the Patrick Kavanagh Award.
His novel The Eskimo in the Net was published by Marion Boyars Publishers (London) in 2003 and was short listed for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award 2004. It was selected by the editor of the Daily Express as his Book of the Year 2004 “scandalously ignored by the Man Booker judges.”
He is a past recipient of two Sunday Tribune/Hennessy Awards including New Irish Writer of the Year 1996.
His short story Sightings of Bono was made into a short film by Parallel Productions featuring Bono (U2) and was released on DVD in 2004. It was published in 2005 by Scritturapura Editore (Italy) as a Paprika Short as part of their (individually published) international short story series.
