My collection reflects my interests in 20th-century European literature (in translation, unfortunately), with some emphasis on German writers. Also evident is my interest in contemporary cultural and social criticism.

I'm a quiet writer and editor. After working in editorial positions in government and for a large (read: exploitative and inhumane) corporation for 24 years, I'm now the managing editor of a health-care magazine that focuses on the elderly and people with disabilities. However, my most serious vocations are those of spouse, serious reader of literary fiction, and collector/student of classical-music recordings. My special pleasures are Bach, especially the solo keyboard works, and Mahler. My undergraduate and graduate education is in political science and comparative literature, respectively. Politically, I'm in the Democratic Party's left wing and am a strong civil libertarian. I deeply oppose the Iraq war, am skeptical of my country's imperialistic and militaristic impulses, and I believe in the state's responsibility to constrain capital's exploitation of vulnerable people and the environment.
