Über michI love to read. I'm also a bit of an information junkie and have a wide range of interests, so in addition to reading books, I have 25+ monthly magazine subscriptions to keep up with, including The New Yorker which arrives weekly. As a result, I always feel like no matter how much I read, I'm not reading as much as I would like. Truth be told, I'd probably feel this way even if I was retired and had 40 more hours a week that I could use to read. My reading tastes are pretty eclectic. I tend to gravitate towards books that have won or been short-listed for major awards, as well as NYTimes Notables, but I'm also up for reading books that don't meet this criteria as well. I tend to put a book on my "to read" list only after having come across multiple good reviews on it, but there are occasions when I'll pick up something from the library that I've never heard about before and read it just because it sounds interesting. I read a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I have a strong interest in other countries and cultures, which is reflected in my reading list. As a result, my collections are grouped primarily by country or geographic area, the number of which continues to expand. I used to always finish reading books once I started them, but the older I get, the more I'm giving myself permission to put it down if I'm not enjoying it. If it's a book that has received great reviews, I'll try to read at least 50-100 pages before making that decision. If not, I'll make that decision much quicker. Life is just too short!

Über meine BibliothekMy library consists of books I have read as well as books I currently own but have not read. I tend to pass on books once I have read them, but if I did own them at the time I read them, they are listed as being a part of my library. I also like to check out books from the library, so the majority of those marked read but not owned are library books. Some books I have chosen not to list in LT, such as cook books, self-help books, books about cats, travel guides and most reference books. I have also chosen not to include my entire Granta collection because 1) I am not able to get LT to list it properly with the volumes in chronological sequence and 2) entering all 115+ volumes skews my profile by making my top matches people with whom the only thing we share in common in terms of reading tastes is that we've all got the complete set of Granta.
