The books divide between the ones I read in my teens and after, on the recommendations of friends and mentors, the ones I read at college, the huge canonical list I read for twenty years after college and which was inspired by the books I had read there and then the contemporary fiction I have been reviewing for newspapers these last 15 years. I probably veer towards Victorian English and modern American, with still a place for Anglo Aussie Patrick White.
