Über mich

L’Arche Daybreak welcomes adults with intellectual disabilities to explore their unique talents, share their gifts and grow in relationship with others. Assistants who live, work, and learn with them are drawn to our community from all over the world seeking a different way of life. L’Arche Daybreak is an example of how people of different intellectual capacity, social origin and culture, can live together.

At L’Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, and learn together creating communities of friendship and belonging. We foster mutual relationships, celebrate the unique value of every person, and strive for a world where everyone can belong and contribute.

Our community consists of eight homes in Richmond Hill, Ontario. All of our homes are within five minutes walking distance of other L’Arche homes and close to public transportation, libraries, restaurants, and gyms. Richmond Hill is located about an hour north of Toronto. There are 37 core members (persons with intellectual disabilities) who have a home at Daybreak, living along with 32-34 assistants in our homes. Today, about half of our assistants come from other countries.

We also have five Day Programs where core members engage in various activities: making craft products, developing social skills, producing surveyor stakes, and expressive arts.
