thebookmagpie: Doomsday book by Connie Willis might be a good shout, it's a blend of speculative and historical. Africa is Not a Country is an interesting history covering roughly the 19th century onwards. (Nov. 30, 2023, 2:38pm)
Eliz12: I prefer non-fiction, and especially modern history (from WWI to the 1950s) but I appreciate really great fiction, too. I also like biographies on virtually every topic. No chick lit, no self-help and, above all, no romances please. I don't know anything about science fiction but I would certainly give it a try.
