- Larson Collection - Chicago Great Western Railway Volume 1 #12 Minnesota and North Western Railroad 2-4-2T in an undated photo, Built by Cooke 1885, 48" driver diameter. Class G. In 1900 renumbered as Chicago Great Western #1 and sold in 1906. The Minnesota and North Western Railroad merged with the Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City Railway on December 8, 1887, and a reorganization created the Chicago Great Western Railway in 1892. - Chicago Great Western #105 2-6-0, built by Cooke, Class D-2, 1888. No location provided but probably on transfer table at Oelwein, Ia shops. Larson Collection CGW Volume 1, Illinois Railway Museum Strahorn Library. The Strahorn Library is at 118 E. Washington Street in Marengo, Illinois. It is normally open from 10AM to 2:30PM on Wednesdays and visitors are welcome. - Dubuque & Dakota Railroad, one of the many predescessor roads of the Chicago Great Western Railway. Shown here is No. 1, a 4-4-0 built by Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1879, builder plate #997, photographed at Allison, Iowa. This unit bears a strong family resemblance to another famous Schenectady unit, the Central Pacific Railroad No.60 type 4-4-0, the Jupiter, (built in September 1868), that took part in the "Golden Spike Ceremony" to celebrate the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. - The first motorized rail car built by Electro-Motive in 1924 was sold to Chicago Great Western Railroad Company, M-300, and became part of the "M-" series purchased by the CGW during the period 1920 - 1929.
