This a sequel to Soehnlein's first book The World of Normal Boys.

I was reading the reviews for Robin and Ruby and I was astounded to read this one:

"This is Gay Fiction and I am not into that at all."

Why would you read 'Gay Fiction' and then have the cheek to write the above and give the book a one star rating?

Some people are posting reviews for books they read for classes on LT. That might be the reason.

"This is Gay Fiction and I am not into that at all."

To my mind that doesn't constitute a review.

"To my mind that doesn't constitute a review."

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to fit the guidelines for flagging it.

>4 Murmurs: Yep, that's what I thought too. And while people are welcome to their views, if you are going to do a public review it ought to be more than registering a vote, seems to me.

It might be terse and not to your taste, but it's a review by LT standards, and it explains the one-star rating as well as anything. Personally, The World of Normal Boys put me off the genre for ages.

Surely it's like reviewing an Indian curry cookbook although you hate Indian cooking and especially curries. If it was just the 'review' then it wouldn't matter, but the star rating does have an effect on the book.

"Personally, The World of Normal Boys put me off the genre for ages."

Why was that?

I'm re-reading it before going on to Robin and Ruby.

If you check reviewer's overall library and the tags for the book, it's appears this was a free review copy that does not fit into her usual reading patterns. As an aside, this individual also hated The Book Thief by your favorited author. ;)

As for The World of Normal Boys, it's been 10 years since I read it and I can't remember specific reasons for disliking it, but generally I didn't care for the writing style or the formulaic story.
