Introduce Yourself Thread #4

I hope I am not overstepping as a new member by creating a new topic. Thread #3 was up to 168 posts with the last dated the end of January, so I thought I would start a fresh one for Spring!

I am 53, just turned last Sunday, so not quite 53 and a week. I remember when that was such a big deal -- being 7... and a half... or a quarter. LOL I live in West Virginia and am disabled. My home is stuffed with books. Anyone visiting knows immediately that I love to read. I enjoy going to book sales, especially sales that benefit charities. Even though I have been a LibraryThing member since 2007, I only just found this group. It always seems to take me a while to "get there" but I always do eventually and that is all that matters in the end! (I have been reading the Pet Peeves thread and apologize for any punctuation or grammar errors up front and will reserve a copy of "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" at the local library ASAP.)

Hi! I've been on LT since 2008 but just discovered this thread this morning. I live in NYC but will soon be schlepping my 750 books to North Carolina the end of May. The good news is that there is more room for bookshelves in my new place. The bad news is that I will miss NYC, the really great bookstores (Crawford-Doyle on Madison is a must visit if you're in Manhattan as is Ursus books if you are into art books), the author talks and book signings. I have a diverse selection of art books and a large library of history and biography. I am soon going to bite the bullet and join the e-book world but I don't think that will cut back much on my physical book purchases.

I'm 54 and have time for Librarything when there's down time at work. I'm a technical editor of manuals for the army.

I've always been a big reader but usually borrowed books from the library until a couple of years ago when my husband built a beautiful, quite large bookcase that covers an entire wall in the living room (which is now a library). It's a nice room so I want only hard cover books in the bookcase, and those can be expensive. So I love going to used book sales. I also find places on the Internet where I can win books.

E-books are not for me!

Recently turned 80 and just noticed this group. Hope to find some more bibliophilic old geezers and geezerettes.

Welcome, almigwin. I aged out of this group a year ago, but they still let me in. There are days I am distinctly geezerish, but I am quite often mentally 12 years old. But bibliophilic at all times.

Hi, I joined LT in Dec. 2010. Tis very hard to admit that alas and alack I am "aged" enough for this group. People think I'm the most sensible down to earth person they know. But somehow when I turned f...fi....fif.....I can't even type it, I started crying. No reasons! I'm marking it down to hormones. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. I am a bibliophile and proud of it. I am trying through Operation Paperback, the Friends of the Local Library and family and friends to rid myself of some 300-400 paperback books. I'm down to about 100 that I still want to get rid of. Now, those aren't ALL my books, but just some read a long time ago and others that have been on the TBR shelf for 10 or more years and I figure I will not get around to it.

I purchased a Kindle this summer and I love it! I can take dozens of books with me inside me purse! I can read when the electricity goes out (I bought a lighted cover). When I fall asleep reading (with no lights on) it turns itself off after 5 minutes. I thought buying an electronic reader would stop me from collecting books, but now, they are just in a different form!

Hi, I'll be 54 in October!! I was born in New York, grew up in Los Angeles, and spent my 20s in Europe, a year in London and more than six years in Paris, then came back to California. I've got four big bookcases filled with favorites, and a few boxes in the cellar. I've posted on the concerts thread and the memory thread. One of my books, The Telescope Builder, is posted on the member giveaway page through mid-September.

At fifty-two, it was already gone. ((Deep sigh...))
I turn sixty next year. According to two doctors, I'm already eighty-five.
I may skip the 60-year-old LTers group altogether, average my ages and join the 70-year-old-LTers group!
But, you guys are still a lot of fun to hang around with.

I hit 60 in November. I'll still hang out with y'all. Kids.

Hello, just aged into this group at the end of August. Celebrated my 50th birthday by signing up for an open mic night and leading the crowd in a naughty sing-along I learned at the MD Renaissance Festival when I was young and stupid. Had it videotaped but haven't looked at it yet; I plan to upload it to YouTube and embarrass my nieces and nephews.

Read mostly romances and newsmagazines. Don't watch television. NPR junkie. My canine companion, Bert, passed away 5 years ago; I want another dog, but since he was very challenging (escape artist and self-mutilator, set off by thunderstorms - broke three teeth taking apart a window, and later his jaw, trying to get out of the crate), I'm waiting until I can give one the attention he needs.

Until then, I'm going to lots of music shows. There is a great venue about 10 minutes from my house - Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH - maximum seating is about 225, very intimate, and most musicians who play there love the room, and tend to come back. I saw Bo Diddley there shortly before he passed - as well as Leon Redbone, Steve Forbert, Peter Wolf (of J. Geils Band), the English Beat, the Alarm, Little Feat - and tons of other acts. If you're in the southern NH area, check it out. Also: a second Tupelo Hall has been opened in White River Junction, VT, with a bit more capacity - a little over 300. And for those of you who don't have a lot of money for a night out - they're both BYOB establishments. Website = TupeloHall.com

Hi! I just found this group and am glad to be here.

I'm 51, although I feel about 12 inside, most of the time. Some mornings I feel more like 81, but that's just some arthritis I've developed.

I've been married to the same man for 31 years (not all roses, some thorns too!), have two (somewhat) grown children (one at home, one away) as well as a dog and two indoor cats. The outdoor cats vary, depending on what strays find out that there's food to be had at the last house on the right. :D

I enjoy gardening, and am an avid 'birder' and photographer. I also like to sing. I don't care much for television, or even most movies, so after my computer time, I have a lot of time to READ!

My reading interests are varied, from soup cans to news magazines to catalogs to comics and, of course, to BOOKS. I love books, they are my friends! I rarely get rid of any of them, unless I come across someone who needs a book more than I do.

I've probably bought and given away more copies of the same books than most people: when I've moved long distance, I've found it necessary to trim down my collection, which is very, VERY hard. Then I have to rebuild it, slowly, as I recall what stories I want at hand, again.

Currently I am enjoying exploring the world of mysteries (Laurie King, Stuart Kaminsky, etc.), with a touch of classics (Kim is on my short TBR list and I'm currently reading Mansfield Park), comics (always, my beloved Elfquest series), and some new things I've not read before. I recently reread the Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series after a number of years, and reread The Outsiders one evening in the last month. I have been reading the Bible in the last decade, and have developed a desire to learn more about it.

Whew! Sorry for the long introduction...might be the extra coffee I drank earlier today (I was sleepy).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to conversing with y'all, from the fair state of North Carolina. :)

Hi all...just joined and am a mere 55..boy don't the years pass :)) I live in Bristol UK with the beautiful Sandy and two daughters 22 and 13...the third daughter is 26 and has moved out with her boyfriend..hurrah!...Life can be fraught with all those women at home...that's why I cycle and run a lot..have just completed my umpteenth half marathon last Sunday October 23rd in a time of 1 hour 35 mins...not bad for an oldy...but having seen a picture of myself at the end of the race boy do i look knackered!!

My husband, too, was awash in a sea of estrogen. Even our pets were female. He always said he wouldn't change a thing.

Our daughter married into a family with the opposite structure. Her mother-in-law was so delighted to finally have another female around!

Hello folks, I've been on LT for some years, didn't realise this group existed!
I'm 57, live in Croydon, UK and took early retirement from my job as a school librarian last year - best decision I ever made! I have two kids, 1d and 1s, daughter is getting married next year so I'm already looking for a mother of the bride outfit that won't make me look/feel stupid :)

Past week or so I've been trying to edit my LT collection as I realised I've got loads of duplicate titles - bad idea as I keep coming across titles I haven't read in years and suddenly getting the urge to re-read them - as if my to read pile isn't big enough ;)

Hello to all you young folks. I have a couple of children your age. I am new to this LT site, I have been active, then dropped out several times. Maybe with a greater age, I will gain some consistancy. I do love to read & I enjoy talking about what I read. Lately I have been immersed in the middle ages with Sharon Kaye Penman 's Richard the Lionhearted. Sometimes I hate to have a book end and this is the last of a series.
