I will give it a serious shot since I got the book last month.

I have my copy ready to go (and I even know where it is for a change). :)
8wookiebender
Count me in, I have my copy waiting at home for me to finish with all the library books due back next weekend. :)

I'm tentatively joining in, though I'm notoriously bad at sticking to schedule with group reads. But I have the book, so that's a start!
10msf59
Nice to see the interest. This will only be my 2nd Mitchell book and I think he works perfectly for a group discussion.
12billiejean
Absolutely!
13alcottacre
I already have my copy of the book pulled out and waiting for me :)

I read the book earlier this year and may join in the discussion once it begins.

I have this on my list. My sister *raved* about it. I'll try to join y'all but I'm already overcommitted for my TIOLIs for June.....

Added to the wiki...
Also, I put the book on the ol' wish list. I may be a bit behind, but will pop in the comment when the time comes.

Yes, if you have read the book or not, please drop by and visit. Feel free to leave comments too. We should have a great group here.
Jim- Thank you sir! I hope you can join us. It would be great to include you on one of my G.R.s!

Just checking in! Hopefully everyone has their copy at hand. I will post the 1st week's thread in a couple days. I'll probably split this in to, 2 separate weeks, but once again, read at your own pace.

xo for doing this, Mark-a-doodle-doo.

eep! Local library branches haven't had copy on hand (I keep looking). May have to venture further (and quickly) to lay hands on a copy.

I'm glad we are getting a nice group together. Should be a blast.
Here's: Week One
Ellen- If you any any questions, please ask. This is a very helpful group.

I started reading this last week but am sooo sloowww at it. I can't figure out why, since it's not boring or anything at all. I guess it's just not as simple to read as the ya I was reading before it.

Week one posted! but it's only the 13th! Eeek! Plan: find crutches and get to the bookstore pronto!

I'm in.....this book has been sitting on my stack for too long. Am looking forward to my first group read.
32msf59
Ellen- I like setting up individual threads, to avoid "spoilers". Stop by the link in #27, for other instructions.
33lindapanzo
I'd better get cracking on this.
34Smiler69
I've gotten Thousand Autumns as an audiobook, and am just finishing up The Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey before getting to it, which should be any day now. I'll drop by the other thread so see what's up, but will keep my hand in front of my eyes as don't want to stumble across any spoilers!
#21 Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the heads up from the What are you reading ... thread. I'm just starting the book today but will drop by the threads as I get into it.
36msf59
Kirsty- It's nice to have you! Looking forward to your comments! Any questions, let me know.

Mark, you've got a lively bunch of readers here "fondling" their books. I've enjoyed everyone's comments on Thread One. All the quotations bring back the memories of this most interesting book. I remember having trouble with all the character's names when I read it. I think a list is a great idea.

I have read the first 20 pages or so last night! Need to read a bit more before I read the spoiler/discussion thread, but loving it so far. I've recently finished reading Sea of Poppies set at a slightly later date, but also involving Europeans trading with the East with all the ensuing linguistic melting pot and cultural encounters and clashes. Will be interested to see how similar/different Mitchell's approach is.
43msf59
Genny- I've had Sea of Poppies high on my WL, forever. No logical reason why I haven't got to it.
44gennyt
Well I definitely recommend it when you've finished Jacob de Zoet.
45wookiebender
I'll put in my recommendations for Sea of Poppies too! I'm eyeing off it's sequel (River of Smoke) that's in the bookshops now...
I started The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet over the weekend, but weekends are poor reading times with the kids around so only really got stuck into it this morning on the bus. We're still in scene setting mode at the moment, but I'm liking it so far.

I've still only managed about 100 pages so far, doubt I'll get it finished before the end of the month at this rate, but enjoying it very much. I might read a bit more of the first spoiler thread now that I've made some progress into the story.
47Matke
Finished! I really liked this book, but not as much as Cloud Atlas. More later, after I can have time to think.
