Thomas Jefferson

I was wondering if you all could recommend a good Jefferson bio? Hayes' the Road to Monticello is on the list, but I was wondering if there was another one I should take a look at?

Gilbert Chinard's Thomas Jefferson: The Apostle of Americanism was the first modern bio of Jefferson. It was published in 1929 and reprinted many times. Available on the internet for a reasonable price. A nice work written by a French academic who was "the" expert of his day on Jefferson, Washington, Franklin and others.

Good News, People! The long-out-of-print 'HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES DURING THE ADMINISTRATIONS OF JEFFERSON AND MADISON, in two volumes (978-0-940450-34-9 & 978-0-940450-35-6), by Henry Adams, grandson of President John Q. Adams and thus great-grandson of President John Adams, is now back in print, in perpetuity, after being endowed as a publication of the Library of America. Mr. Adams also wrote the classic 'THE EDUCATION OF HENRY ADAMS,' one of the finest works of American non-fiction of the twentieth century. Having read the 'Education,' I am strongly inclined to buy the new work, despite the fact that I am retired and the cost for both volumes adds up to $90. Oh well, it's only money.

Wouldn't you say that this was an earlier day version of Liberal Fascism where it is indisputably proved that fascism was endorsed by the American Left as much as it was endorsed by the American Right before it fell from public favor?

As I've always conceived of Henry Adams' purpose, it was to show that the administrations of the Democrat/Republicans Jefferson and Madison were just as corrupt, tyrannical, war like and generally unAmerican as was the administration of his "illustrious" grandfather.

If you want to waste money on such a propaganda piece, well........

It is a mystery why a book authored by a man who died 94 years ago could still be in copyright but it appears that it is. You can find a few used copies for much less than $90.
