I've always rather admired Franklin, and am looking into starting a collection of books about and related to him. Thus far I have:
Benjamin Franklin: an American Life
Franklin: Writings
the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
the last is in a volume published by Black's Reader's Service which only contains the autobiography, sadly. The other Library of America volume for Franklin is obviously on my list, but what else should I be looking for?

Keep a look out for:
H.W. Brands' The First American
Benjamin Franklin by Carl Van Doren won the Pulitzer in 1939 for Biography and is still a classic book on Franklin
The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin by Gordon Wood
A Great Improvisation by Stacy Schiff
Benjamin Franklin by Edmund Morgan
Benjamin Franklin, Politician: The Mask and the Man
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of books on Franklin, and can't really suggest that many titles. I will be interested to see what others' have that I can add to my collection.

Another collection of some of Franklin's writings is edited by Edmund Morgan, Not your usual founding father. One more biography to look for is Ronald Clark, Benjamin Franklin A Biography
