I have just come across a CD box of radio adaptations of Holmes stories from the 1950s with these two actor knights playing the main parts. In my minds ear the voices aren't quite obvious matches*. Has anyone listened to these? At c. £30 a pop I won't buy them without some evidence that I should.
*How about Laurence Olivier as Moriarty? Think "Is it Safe?".

I haven't listened to those shows yet but recently finished listening to the Basil Rathbone radio dramas. A lot of those old radio shows are out of copyright/never had a copyright and if you search online you get lots of sites that offer them for free.
The Gielgud portrayal e.g. seems to be available here: http://www.storiesnow.com/adventures
This may save you a few £££. ;-)

>2 IrishHolger: Thank you very much for that URL - a splendid selection. On the basis of a very brief listen Ralph Richardson is a rather good Watson in the Nigel Bruce mould, but I don't think Gielgud's heart is really in it.

Glad it worked. Now I need to add that to my Must Listen pile. ;-)

> 1. Olivier did play Moriarty in the film version of The Seven Percent Solution. Not quite the portrayal one might have expected, and certainly not in the same line as Marathon Man.
