I'm just taking a poll for the sake of avoiding creating spoilers this summer.

Edited: This thread now contains some slight spoilers.

Paperback. But according to chapters.indigo.ca (Canadian chain bookstore with online sales) it will be released July 1st (same day as the hardcover).

Interesting! :)

I'm buying hardcover. (July 19th)

I'm too cheap to buy the hardback :)
(And all my other copies are in paperback anyway.)

Of course, hardcover might be more practical in the long run; it will stand up to more re-reads!

My other copies are, too. Now, however, I'm regretting that as they get reread so much. Maybe I'll try to get them in hardcover and give my paperbacks to my mom, who reads the series.

I've pre-ordered the hardback. I don't want to wait for the paperback :)

I wouldn't be able to stand waiting for it, either. Hey, do you have a cat named Fiona? It the name of one of my dogs.

I had a cat named Fiona -- she died of a congenital heart defect when she was 1 1/2 years old (her picture is on my profile page). She was an awesome cat!

What a unique face she had! Sorry she's not with you any longer. I've lost a cat, too, by poison from a neighbor.

Bought the hardcover from Waterstones in Leadenhall Market yesterday. And finished it last night.....

#11 - Yeah, rub it in...you guys get the Fforde books weeks earlier than us NYers! Last year I ordered it from Amazon UK just to get it as early as possible, but this year I decided to have patience. Without asking for spoilers, though, is it worth the 3 week wait?

Just got my copy in the mail from Amazon. Wow, a new Harry Potter and a new Thursday Next in one week -- it's like Christmas in July (only I had to pay for them both myself, so they aren't exactly presents and it's 100 F outside but otherwise the resemblance is uncanny).

#13 - I quite agree about the Christmas bit. (It may not be 100 F where I am, but I sure have a headache from the heat these last two days.) I think I got over some of the shock of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" just in time for Thursday Next in First Among Sequels. I've just started reading it. (No spoilers here.)

Got the U.S. hardcover, but then found out the U.K. edition has a printer's error, so I bought that one. I saw Jasper at a reading in Boston last night; he found it amusing that I had both editions, and even more so that I'd bought the U.K. one because of the error ... he said he'll have to let his publisher know that the "oops" is causing an increase in sales!

Very enjoyable book indeed. Had me smiling and he managed to address a question I hadn't even considered: how would the boo form of Thursday be against the real one?

Worthy addition to the series.

I got the UK hardcover one and was at first quite perplexed when I noticed the printers error (i.e. missing footnoterphone conversations) and even considered asking for a replacement, but in the end I came to the conclusion that a first edition with a printer error might be worth more in the future ;)

Anyways to the story. I really liked it, so it was well worth the wait. However, for my liking there was a bit too much repetition with basics (facts about the world known from previous works) being explained all over again. And as usual there are a lot of loose ends left at the end of the book which have to wait for a resolution until the next three (!) Thursday Next books are published.

I finished it yesterday. It was quite good, although perhaps a bit too heavy on explanations of all the BookWorld technology (but as TN says in the book, some people like that sort of thing). I laughed out loud several times (and groaned a few times at the puns).

I particularly liked the jabs at reality TV -- favorite quote: "Reality TV was to me the worst form of entertainment -- the modern equivalent of paying sixpence to watch lunatics howling at the walls down at the local madhouse."

I admit I was little surprised to receive my hardback copy last week from Amazon.com. I hadn't even thought that was regularly available in the U.S., at least that I had noticed (maybe I just was always a year behind?). It's fine except for not matching the rest of my copies of the series :) I finished reading it earlier today and now cannot wait until the next one!

The only thing I missed was how the chapter intros used to be attributed to actual characters, such as Thursday's stalker/biographer.

#19 nperrin: Sorry, haven't noticed your post till now...

Re: Next Three
I remember reading an interview with Jasper Fforde where he mentioned that he plans to finish this main story arch within the next three books, so that there will again be four books which are closely connected (as with the first four). So there are still more adventures with Thursday Next in store for us :)

Good. There were too many loose ends for my taste in the last one.
