Not truly a 2012 readathon, but I suspect it might bleed over into January 1. See here .

Is there anyone by any chance interested in a doing a read-a-thon this weekend? I could host it - but only part-time...

I might be able to join in for a little bit.

I should be able to read some that weekend. I'll need downtime to relax since January is set to get crazy beginning tomorrow.

Oh my, it seems that most of the LibraryThingers are a little bit worn-out from the holidays. :) Maybe it'll work out another time.

Hey Stasia, sorry to hear that you have to work at the weekend! Hope that you'll have some time to read.

Monica and Jean, I'll start tomorrow around 8:00 CET and I'll see where the next three days will bring me. I'll keep an eye on your threads to see how your reading's going.

I will try and participate this weekend... I don't think I have much planned and I have a book club meeting on Monday I have to finish the book for too, so it will be a nice way to start off the year. Can't say I won't be multitasking and watching college basketball at the same time, though, at least on Sat, as there are def some good games planned.

What Read-a-Thon?

31maggie1944
Feb. 1, 2012, 1:40 pm

I think it works best if an announcement for a read-a-thon is made a week or so in advance so there is lots of chances for folks to see the announcement and can consider signing up. I've noticed it takes a while for the Read-A-Thons to fill in... MrsSmith88, you may want to try again sometime.

Maybe Mother's Day weekend isn't the perfect time for a readathon . . . but then again, a lot of LT moms will probably be receiving books! I finished semester grading today and would love to host a readathon to celebrate the beginning of summer break. I'd like to start Friday (May 11) at 10:00 a.m. EDT and keep things going until Monday morning, 10:00 a.m.

Whose in? If there's enough interest to make it go, I'll post a sign-up thread tomorrow.

They're not really over. . . people just do them when they want/can. My schedule has been very unpredictable and busy lately, so hosting/solid reading time hasn't been seen more than a few hours in advance, if that. Otherwise I would've done a couple by now. I'm hoping things will settle soon-ish. If/when they do, I will host some more. But feel free to post one and I will join in for the bits and pieces that I can :)

Suggestion for a Labor Day Weekend readathon: Why not have rolling hosts, so it's not as much of a burden? I'd be willing to host either Friday or Sunday -- does anyone else want to step in to take on one of the other days? We could start Friday at noon, and have the host "work" until noon the following day?

86crazy4reading

Depending on what my tax accountant says this afternoon (as in, If I am Finished), I perhaps could host on Saturday. I don't think I can do multiple days, but one day would be good! Regardless of who is or is not the host I will be participating at least some of the long weekend. I am even hoping I could start on Friday... lots of reading seems like such a good idea!

Cariola, why don't you and Maggie post what your ideal hours would be? I tend to be a night hawk, so if I can tackle Friday noon until the wee hours on Saturday morning, I could hand off to someone else, and maybe pick up the last few hours on Monday, i.e. 6 p.m. until midnight perhaps?

97crazy4reading
Aug. 30, 2012, 1:56 pm

Wow great to see that we found some hosts. I was thinking of offering to host but I was not sure if I would have the time. I have a lot of cleaning to do and would like to take this weekend to do it (which probably won't happen). If you need help with hosting let me know I can try to fill in (just not the wee hours) I am usually up early but tend to go to sleep by 9 or 10 pm at night. Going to the thread now to sign up!!

98Cariola
Aug. 30, 2012, 5:12 pm

Maggie, are you an early riser? I'm not particularly, but I expect I'll be up until at least midnight.

99maggie1944
Aug. 31, 2012, 8:38 am

Yes, I am an early riser but as I am on the west coast of the USA it means it is late in the earth's time. So normally, I get up at about 5 pm Seattle time, which is 8 am Eastern USA time, and 1 pm in London, and 2 pm in Paris.

I am definitely OK for Saturday. I just found out last evening that I do indeed have Friday off.... and so I can get the essential stuff done and can start dedicating myself to reading on Saturday! Woo hoo!

I'm going on vacation and will be reading. . . but I won't have my computer with me, so I can only join in spirit.

Here's the 2013 read-a-thon thread; you might want to post this over there too :)

I've only read a few books this year (that aren't GN's or audios, that is) and could use an excuse to just sit down and read for a bit. I'm not working Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, so it'd be a bit sporadic, but I'd still participate!

Sounds good to me, I've way over structured my reading this month and don't know how I'll get to it all.

Here's the official starter thread. Come on over and let me know if you're officially signing on.
