List of European Authors by Country of Birth

This list is a list of European authors who write fiction books. There can be a lot of debate about what the nationality of an author is, therefore I am going by the country of birth. I’ve looked around a bit in order to make this list, but I’m sure I missed a lot of authors and made some mistakes. If you spot a mistake - like an author listed under the wrong country? Please let me know!

Rules of the list:

*Author belongs to a country if he was born there.

*Only authors who have written fiction are allowed. Preferably translated to English.

*For difficult countries I will also accept authors of poetry. If there is truly no-one who wrote fiction or poetry in that country, I will take narrative non-fiction as well.

*Suggest an author by commenting on this thread. Please note the name and country of birth. Do you have an author for a country/region in Europe not on the list? Suggest away! But please do not ask me to put a country/region on the list if you do not have an author suggestion to go with it.
