I don't know about that Bert. I have to say he's not one of my favourite writers, though I've always very much enjoyed hearing him speak - the inverse of Vargas Llosa! I kept an interview with Ramona Koval I heard on ABC several years ago - and is here: http://www.podfeed.net/episode/2006-01-15+Carlos+Fuentes/109700 . Maybe that will enthuse you more...

#4--Agreed. Haven't read This I believe but Hydra-head is kind of a ho-hum crime thriller IMO. Artemio Cruz is a lot better and much deeper work.
