Seriously this is all about cleaning up the living room where my TBR is disastrously out of control. Once I've read them they go downstairs where there are many, many more bookshelves.

But I must say I'm off to a really bad start on this: I'm currently working on my second library book of the year with 3 more holds in today. I'll pick those up on the way home. Maybe in February...?

Don't pressure yourself, it's a yearlong challenge so if they don't get started until February, that's just fine. Just don't forget them!

What else is a living room for? Good luck with the challenge :)

Thanks to all for the encouraging words. I can't figure out why I haven't been back since early January. Complete lack of memory plus waay too many library books! And I keep buying more! Will there ever be a year when I read more of my own books than I buy?

So -- In January there were four, in February only one, and thanks to a beach vacation in March I read four. So, nine so far for the year. Not bad, I think.

Nine books is a very nice amount! Keep it up.

Thanks, Connie! I'm chugging along.

Actually, I've been a reading machine in the month of April; unfortunately there've been a lot of library books. But here's what I've read from my own shelves:

The Pleasures of Men by Kate Williams
The Hope Factory by Lavanya Sankaran
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa
A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell

Not bad. I'm currently reading another book from my shelves but it's a re-read for my face group so I won't count it here since I've already read it once.

Three more to add so far this month:

Persuasion by good old Jane Austen
The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin
and currently reading What is Left the Daughter by Howard Norman

I'm not touching any tickers until the end of the month! :)

Don't I know the dangers of the library! But I think you are making excellent progress, so keep it up.

Oh, thank you so much! I'm always glad to know I'm not alone in my stumbling and the encouragement is definitely appreciated!

One more to add to my tally: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson which is definitely going to be in my top 10 this year!!

WOOT!! I just *LOVE* it when my reading and my mood come together like this. The BEST time!

Recently finished Blood & Beauty by Sarah Dunant which, I know, hasn't been on my shelf long but, hey, it's moved now!

And am currently reading Is This Tomorrow by Caroline Leavitt.

Life has taken me away from the internet quite a bit recently, but not from reading. I'm here now to say that's as good as it got for May, and to report on June and July.

June books from my shelves were:
A Small Fortune by Rosie Dastgir
The Hope Factory by Lavanya Sankaran
A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr
Always Watching by Chevy Stevens (ARC from somewhere?)

July books were:
The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Potzsch (thank goodness my book group chose that one; I've had it waaaay too long)
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
Kind of Cruel by Sophie Hannah (LTER)
A Partial History of Lost Causes by Jennifer DuBois
The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison

As usual, I've bought more books than I've read. Still need to work on THAT little problem. ;-)

Wow, great job, Karen. 7 books in 20 days.

And it was a ton of fun, too, Connie! I must confess I spent most of the month laying around reading and I don't feel one bit guilty about it!

And two more for August:

Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

That is, without a doubt, my best ever total for ROOT books.

What did you think of the Secret Keeper, Karen?

Connie, at the mid-point I was just sure I was going to be wholly disappointed in the book but then she threw in a knuckle ball and it bounced around a bit and, in the end, I wasn't unhappy with it. I haven't enjoyed any of her books as well as the very first one, The House at Riverton, but all in all this one was a pretty good read.

How did you feel about it?

And for September:

Doctored Evidence by Donna Leon
The Little Book by Selden Edwards (which my entire book group absolutely loved!)
Mr Lynch's Holiday by Catherine O'Flynn (a recently received LTER which I still haven't reviewed)
The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith
Mother, Mother by Koren Zailckas
The Good House by Ann Leary

Good heavens -- I'm really on a roll here! And here I feared I was reading too many library books this month. Pfft!

Of course, a couple of these are really new but they're still taking space on my shelves.

Karen, I still have to read it. So I don't know. But I'm happy with your comment.

October was a slim month for reading; I can't help but feel I've forgotten to list something somewhere but, anyway, I know I read:

The Lost Prince by Selden Edwards and
How the Light Gets In by Louise Penny

November seems to be the month for the library since I've read a bunch of those this month; but the only two from my own shelf were:

The 10pm Question by Kate De Goldi (a gift from a friend in mid-summer)
A Land More Kind Than Home by Wiley Cash (with my f2f group)

In December I plan to read only 4 books, all of which I own. Let's see how that goes!

Dez. 20, 2013, 3:36 pm

I had planned to read a mere handful of books this month, and in the first 20 days I haven't even managed half of the first one. Yes, it's a busy month; yes, I've got a lot going on but, jeeze Louise -- Surely I can do better than this!

So, I'm still plugging away at Sarum...

Dez. 20, 2013, 9:26 pm

Ah, Sarum.... that was the thickest book I could find in the airport bookstore one vacation so I understand the 'still plugging away' read of it. ;-)

Glad to know I'm not the only one!

But I did finally finish it. Unfortunately it took so long that I didn't have any time left for the other books I wanted to read in December so my total for that month is... 1! Updating my ticker next.
