First new one specific to site maintenance anyway (I tend to discount the others).

The statistics John references seem current through November 2012. Anyone a numbers excerpt? I do little more than look at the stats pages and say, "Oh, look. It's a graph."

I can't say I'm very happy about it. He basically denies there is any real problem, and he says nothing about the impact of the 3-points cost for international mooching, or about the behavior of the admins, or any other of the problems that have been mentioned here on LT.

Once again I have to remind myself that I love Bookmooch's members, not its owner.

Once again I have to remind myself that I love Bookmooch's members, not its inventory selection.

I don't know, Sandydog. On the one hand, I have quite a few points; on the other, just within the last months I've rec'd some pretty cool books from other members.

Does anyone know the exact stat that John is quoting from when he says. "For instance, look at the number of members offering books, which hit a height of 31,000 members, but has stabilized at around 19,000 members for a year now."

When I look at the number of members offering books, for all of 2012 it seems down in the 18k and now dropped to 17K. I am noticing a steady decline and not a leveling off. Maybe he is rounding up?

The number to me that really shows the health is the number of books for mooching. That number has been decreasing as well. At the beginning of 2011 there were 390K+ books to mooch, at the beginning of 2012 there were about 305K+ to mooch. Now in 2013 there is only 277K+ to mooch; that does not seem like a leveling off to me. http://bookmooch.com/chartcsv?c=number_of_asins_listed

any thoughts? While I don't use BM any longer, too small of a selection, rude admins, higher postage etc. I do trade on other book trading sites still where these are not 2 of the 3 don't occur. I am sad for BM that what was a good idea seems to be dying for a number of reasons.

Well now that you mention it, after considerable searching for key words in the title field, I've had some selection success. PBS is far superior; I just have to be a bit more patient with BM.

The number of books currently being mooched has to be a good indicator. I can't see evidence of levelling off there. Personally, my Pending list has just dropped to zero for the first time I can remember. If management can't see the problem I'll be staying only as long as it takes to use my remaining points.

You and me both. I actually joined BookMooch not long after it started, so although I’ve not been a heavy user (living in a small country where books are expensive) I have been a long-time user of the site. These days I hardly even bother to check my wishlist.

I'm just about out of points. And with the elimination of surface international, the cost to send from Canada equals or is even more the cost of a new book. However, while I may not always post books directly onto BookMooch, I will continue to add to my moochable collection on here. So if anyone is interested in mooching, they can request and I will post.

I do have quite a few thin books in my moochable collection that I may check the cost of postage on, and if it makes sense, post a few of those. I also have a couple of US trips planned in the next couple of months so sending from there may be an option.

But I have noticed a MAJOR slowdown in how I've been using the site in the last year or so. Not necessarily a bad thing, but reflective of my changing reading tastes, and the ability to get books cheaper locally.
