Baseball is returning!

Most tasteless joke I admit to laughing lqarly at: They let Pistorius out on the condition that he wear an tracking anklet.

Chicago, the hellhole for baseball fans has the Bulls playing quite well without Rose, so if Rose returns...

The Blackhawks just set a record for most straight games opening a season without a loss.

Baseball resumes soon!

Lol

I know nothing about baseball except that " real men swing pink!"
I learned that a few weeks ago in Louisville Kentucky

Here is absolute proof that instant replay should not be used in umpiring baseball games:

As long as the red sox win, I don't care if they didn't get any wickets.

I trust you all are cheering on the Bruins?!

11MeditationesMartini
Jun. 17, 2013, 7:29 pm

Yes! The small corner of me that still carries a flickering candle for the hock is cheering for them, partly because the Blackhawks can suck it but partly on their own merits.

12RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 2:33 am

You speak that way of my darling Blackhawks?

13MeditationesMartini
Jun. 18, 2013, 3:46 am

Really Rick, Chicago? They were mediocre for decades, the only cool player they ever had is Phil Esposito,* and their logo makes the spirits of the earth weep and gnash their teeth. Also they have a history of sending Vancouver home early with no riot. Boston inspired a riot. The choice is clear.

*Wayne's World ruined Mikita and I count Chelios as a Hab.

Rask!!

15RickHarsch
Bearbeitet: Jun. 18, 2013, 8:59 am

Phil Esposito WASN'T NOT A FUCKING BLACK HAWK! (My father hated him) Tony Esposito was. And Mikita was great, as were BOBBY FUCKING HULL, Keith Magnusen, and probably some other guys.

16RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 9:04 am

I simply won't have this.

And on a baseball thread.

Don any of you dopes realize that my son's favorite team, the Pirates, before yesterday's loss had the third best record in baseball. Better than the wrong sox? Better than the Yankers! Better than Atlanta!
Meanwhile, deep into the season, Cabrera slowly climbs back toward .400 and the 192 rbi pace; Yasiel Puig, in his last at bat in his last game was batting for .500--if he got a hit he would have been something like 24 for 48; and Manny Machado is on pace for 74 doubles. Usually this time of year someone is on pace for 60 doubles. Machado will have 45 before he cools off by the looks of it. AND both Miami and Houston are flashing signs of brilliance as many a sub-Mendoza hitter are being paid tens of millions. So, Cano, you're in a free agent year? Why not try to hit fucking .290 at least.

Askari where is my tranquilizer gun ?

18A_musing
Jun. 18, 2013, 10:16 am

The greater Esposito did indeed play for the Blackhawks, just not as well as he did for the Bruins, who, let's face it, had a team for him to play on.

However great a player Hull was, I don't think he qualifies as "cool".

Rask!

19MeditationesMartini
Bearbeitet: Jun. 18, 2013, 2:29 pm

Oops! Before my time. Well, Tony was also a'right. Let us say that Bobby Hull, the golden fratboy, and Mikita cancel each other out. Anyway, they don't have anyone cool at present, except maybe Hossa, who can't be cool if he's not on the ice.

Rask might turn out great, but he's obviously cool. I'm surprised "shitty ice" got such a reaction--I thought you were allowed to swear on TV now? All these news outlets changing it to "chippy." One shakes one's head.

In summary, I think I just got a bit excited about this series.

Step up your game Martini. Some of us only read the sports threads for the trash talkin'.

21RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 3:03 pm

Rask my fucking ask!

Kane, Toews, Crawford, Sharp, Benedetti!

22MeditationesMartini
Jun. 18, 2013, 3:20 pm

Toews has one goal in the playoffs, right?

(I'm sorry, Anna, I'm bad at this.)

23RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 3:37 pm

And you have how many?

And what about Benedetti? Didn't thnk he'd be a factor did ya?

24RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 3:38 pm

come to think of it, Anna has been a non-factor this postseason...

25A_musing
Jun. 18, 2013, 4:02 pm

Rick, how many shots did each of the Blackhawk "stars" have on goal last game and what happened to them.

Rasked! Every one.

Anna, Martini remains our touchstone for coolness

27RickHarsch
Jun. 18, 2013, 4:04 pm

Benedetti had more shots than any bear!

Let's just say I'm a Blackhawk at trash talk:(

30RickHarsch

(By the way, the Bruins are my second favorite team.)

31MeditationesMartini

35A_musing

And you know what Bendettitti wins? He gets the "Most Rasked Player Award". Shot! And Blocked!!!

36RickHarsch
Jun. 19, 2013, 12:49 am

What possesses a writer to even think about a 17 game hitting streak? It's bizarre.

As for Benedetti, wait and see.

37MeditationesMartini

I was under suspension so unable to express my dismay at the pounding the Bruins took at the stick of Benedetti et al. Now I express my dismay that Sam has not found a way to express his admiration of the skatin injuns of Chi town.

43MeditationesMartini
Jul. 2, 2013, 12:32 am

Oooh, what was the suspension for? Slashing? Punching a linesman?

44MeditationesMartini

PS Benedetti was a total non-factor.

Attacking the REF!

I don't know how to get the reference, but go to pro/con:

"Report: NSA asked Verizon for records of all calls in the U.S."

around june 20th things heated up--i called spalding a fucking pig finally and told him to punish me (on the 22nd)

he was very upset that i called him something like a holocaust denier for dismissing the Palestinian wipe-out

I was suspended for 7 days, but went to Guantanamo and only got out after 9.

Benedetti quietly forced his team forward against all odds.

The Hawks played good hockey; the series was almost as good as Bruins v. Vancouver.

On to baseball. Sox have won 50 already. Mets are 12 out. Whereto from here?

47RickHarsch
Jul. 2, 2013, 5:38 pm

Pirates, Sam. When my son two years ago had to choose a favorite, alas he chose the Pirates. Looky now! As for your Sox, well I have always been a Sox fan, from Rico P and George Scott and Lonborg, though i preferred the Cards, to any Sox team versus the Yanks. But this year I would like to see a four team race.

an Ethiopian kid on my son-s team in italy told us today his favorite player is David Ortiz//can-t argue with that.

Sometimes the batter hits the ball right back to the pitcher, and, one way or another, he is out.

They used to play without gloves all the time, and nobody said anything about it:

Other plays follow each of the bare handed ones.

Mister Durick:

At least one thing is new: they never threw with their gloves in the bare hand days.

(It's difficult to watch Davis on that play...I'm still squirming.)
