My father threw away all of my old books I kept as a child, and this one was very dear to me. I can't remember the name at all though.

I got it without the dustcover. The hardbound cover was black, with a circular design on it, I want to say it was a magenta. It was very old (the school librarian gave it to me because it hadn't been checked out in 15 or so years. I think the earliest check out date was in the 60's or 70's. I read it in 1998) and I think the author was female.

From what I remember of the plot, there were three protagonists telling the tale. Each chapter it would flip back and forth between them. There was a boy in a medieval setting--knights and all that, very primitive. There was a girl who I think was from the future (at least, more modern than medieval, possibly from another planet) who was observing the boy... very peaceful society. Then the other POV was a militaristic society. I think they were trying to conquer the first boy's time/planet?

The book was probably sround 300-600 pages. I was in 6th or 7th grade, so it would have been in a middle school library.

Any help would be great! I'm finding books to read my son, and I'd love to find this one again--but I don't remember the title or author!!

'Enchantress From The Stars' by Sylvia Engdahl?
"Do fairy tales have a grain of truth? Enchantress from the Stars examines this question with a thrilling adventure about the meeting of three different cultures. In the book, Elana, the heroine must try to save one race of people from being colonised by another without revealing that she is in fact from an evolutionally superior race of people. It is a great read for all ages, but will particularly appeal to year 7 and above.
It is the type of book that stays with you after you finish reading. You find yourself wondering all sorts of questions about colonisation, space travel, and the meaning of progress. Is magic real or simply something that we do not yet understand?"
