I just ordered VCTOTW and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions which recipe I should try first or has a favorite cupcake from the book.

I can't praise enough Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. I can only make one recipe a month, so it's going to take a long time to try everything that looks good. So far, I've made lemony-vanilla (a variation listed under the plain cupcake), S'mores, cherry chocolate crème, sexy low-fat vanilla cupcakes w/ berries, and I'm probably forgetting one or two more. My favorite by far has been the cherry-chocolate one, which you're sure to love if you're a chocolate fan.
Later this month, I plan to make the blueberry-lemon cupcakes while berries are still in season.
The one thing bit of advice I have is to ignore what they say granulated sugar run through the food processor as a substitute for powdered sugar. I did that with the first batch, and the frosting was very crunchy. I now use an organic powdered sugar I found at Whole Foods.

I think the idea of the book is so cool and I totally want to get it at some point...the problem is that I don't really fancy desert!

I have the book, but I don't have much time for baking these days. Maybe tomorrow, for my son's 5th birthday....

Fantastic book! Start with the first recipe - it is very simple and hard to get wrong.

Love the book (and my carnivore husband enjoys the results too). I've started at the beginning and am working my way through the recipes. Even the basic ones are delicious :)

I've just ordered this book and am so excited, it is silly! I plan on baking once or twice a month and sharing the results to share the vegan goodness!

I am planning on having a cupcake making party with a couple of friends sometime soon. My one friend wants to do the Black Forest cupcakes, I am leaning toward the Margarita cupcakes (although now that I read Kihera's message, I am thinking about the Chai Latte Cupcakes), and I think my other friend is still deciding. I can't wait!

We finally had our cupcake party this past weekend! We made the Sexy Low-fat Vanilla cupcakes with fresh berries, gingerbread cupcakes, and the chocolate cherry creme cupcakes. I posted some pictures on my blog: http://almostveganproject.blogspot.com/2008/04/cupcake-party.html
They were so good, we are definitely going to do this again soon! My kids were thrilled, so I know they will be prompting me to do it often. Tomorrow night we are going to make a bunch of cupcakes for my daughter to take to school for her student teacher's last day.
