Besides The Dresden Files, by two favorite urban fantasy series are The Nightside series by Simon R. Green, and The Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey. Has anyone else read them? If so what did you think?

Love Sandman Slim! Next book comes out in a few days! Love Dresden, who doesn't? I couldn't get into The Nightside series, although I only made it 1/2 way through the first book, I might not have been in the right mood though. Maybe I'll try again though.

Along the same lines is the Felix Castor series by Mike Carey, if you haven't read those yet you gotta give them a try!

Three great series!

Have you also tried Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series? I think they are a similar read to Dresden. Atticus O'Sullivan is a Druid living in Arizona who fights off various supernatural creatures and gods from various mythologies. His Irish Wolfhound Oberon is a fabulous character.

Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London / Midnight Riot (title varies depending on your location) is also pretty cool. Peter Grant is a young police officer and also the first English apprentice wizard in fifty years. It draws a lot on the historical and mythological background of London, which is interesting.

I read and love Dresden, Nightside and Sandman series. If you are looking for others that feature male protagonists and dicey situations- here are some authors to check out- Harry Connolly (Child of Fire), Charlie Huston (Already Dead), Mario Acevedo (Nymphos of Rocky Flats), Glen Duncan (The Last Werewolf), Michael Carey, TA Pratt (Blood Engines)- but this one has female lead.
