Some odd juxtapositions

I wasn't convinced there was really an underlying theme linking them, but these days you see so many scrollable collections of lists -- associated with pictures -- on the internet. It has become almost a genre.

For some reason I never find "X surprisingly has the same area as Y" comparisons that exciting - most of the time you are only interested in one of the two places, and the size of the other one doesn't mean anything to you.

But the "A is surprisingly at the same latitude as B" ones often do force me to do a double-take. I find it hard enough to keep track of which places on opposite sides of the North Sea line up with each other (The Hague and Ipswich; Esbjerg and Alnwick, for instance). When it comes to North America, I always forget about how far South the US is compared to Europe - Washington DC lining up with Lisbon, and so on.
