John Green?

With the movie adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars currently filming, I was wondering if you guys were reading John Green's novels, and what you were thinking about them.

I've read The Fault in Our Stars twice (the second time to write an encyclopedia essay on it) and found it brilliant. That said, I'm somewhat unlikely to see the movie.

I also loved Looking for Alaska.

I tried starting An Abundance of Katherines once but found the premise too ridiculous. Maybe it transcends that, though?

I enjoyed An Abundance of Katherines and found it delightful. It doesn't take long to read if you want to give it another shot!

I read Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars and found them both just OK. His story in Geektastic was by far the weakest. I read a lot of YA and am not sure why he is considered the best of the best.

Nothing else of his, for me, reached the level of The Fault in Our Stars, but I enjoyed Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns, and An Abundance of Katherines, probably in that rating order.

I don't consider him the best of the best but I do like his books. I've only read 2 though.

I thought Paper Towns and the Fault in Our Stars were excellent, though tFiOS is definitely his best by far. As for him being the best of the best, I've never heard that claim, though I don't read a ton of YA.

I've read all his novels and loved them (TFiOS was my favorite). I'm a big vlogbrothers/crashcourse fan too, and I follow his tumblr.

His active-ness on YouTube/tumblr probably helps endear him to his fans. Makes it seem more like he's a friend (or someone to look up to) than just another author. Having that connection makes the books more special.

Looking for Alaska was good, and TFIOS was verging on really good, but I'd never consider them my favorites...And I haven't read the rest. :)

I really liked Looking for Alaska - it came out when I was in high school and it really connected with me. I read An Abundance of Katherines when it came out a few years later, and I thought it was cute, though it did make my roll my eyes quite a few times. I read Paper Towns just recently and I thought it was really poorly executed. It's like he read a basic sociology text on women in fiction (or, more likely, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl page on TV Tropes) and wanted to write about it, but without giving it serious thought or consideration. That made me hesitant to read The Fault in Our Stars, because even before Paper Towns, I don't think John Green writes female characters particularly well. I've heard good things about it, though, so I have it on my backburner TBR.

I just got The Fault in Our Stars from the library. We'll see how it is!

I've recently finished Looking for Alaska and considered OK. I felt like it took to long to get to the point and once it got there it was over. Maybe it just isn't my genera.

So far i've read TFIOS, Paper Towns, An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska they are all pretty good but not at the top of my list

I really love John Green. Despite his fetish for manic pixie dream girls, I really enjoy his work and what I have learned from them. Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns are my favorites because they are really philosophical and have honestly changed me.
I like The Fault in Our Stars and will likely go see it when it comes out in theaters. But I am much more excited for his other books becoming movies and am hoping those get done soon.
