I don't know how obsessive other people on LT is with the state of their books. I will confess to a strong preference for hardcover books, but the cost is often prohibitive where I live, and a lot of the books in the genres I read are only published in pb - and how annoying is that that the publishing company halfway through a series start publishing them in HC (due to popularity I am sure). I often buy remaindered books, because I care less about a mark on the pages.
Therefore I will venture forth a recommendation in the urban fantasy genre: Shadows in the Darkness by Elaine Cunningham which is currently on sale here:

It is another one of those female paranormal heroines, which I would rank below Sookie Stackhouse, and the Mercy Thompson (Blood Bound) series, but slightly above the Weather Warden and definitely above the Rachel Morgan series (Dead Witch Walking). The blurb makes it sound as elves fanfiction, but it actually pretty good.
