I stand loud and proud I am a bibliophile. Of course that means lots of books in every year. LOL And it also means a lot of non fiction. But as soon as I get those they are devoured :- Whereas the fiction I buy { I liked the synopsis/ bought on a friends recommendation/or given as gifts } tend to end up sitting on the shelves. So 2014 has been now deemed as the year of fiction.I have fiction dating back from 2005!! And no more books in ! Of couse every year I try to 1/2 the incoming and "cough" don't.:-}We will see how I go...

So here's to finally reading "Mists of Avalon" and "Pillars of the Earth" and all the others.
Happy reading everyone!

Hi all have decided to do a new ticker for new books acquired in 2014-it will be interesting to see how many I will buy!

And a ticker for the newbies read {LOL}

Of course this means I've already broken the no new ones in rule! Yes I didn't last long!DH is ROTFLing...

Lady, I'm trying to reading those two this year too! Hope you'll sign up for the group reads - September for Mists of Avalon and 4th qtr for Pillars of the Earth. Reading with others is sometimes the push I need to get to some that have been sitting for a while.

Good luck!

Dez. 26, 2013, 12:22 am

Hi Cyderry I'm not sure .. i could possibly do Mists of Avalon in September - we always go away for the school holidays but I really don't get internet while away.As for Pillars of the Earth what do you mean by 4th quater? If by chance yon mean October though December - then sorry no. It's our last term of school. My kids go to 2 different schools with lots of end of school actives going on. {Side note -This year just about did my head in!}

Quick question -can I start my "root" now and finish Jan 1st . Or do I wait for Jan 1st to start?? Hope that makes sense:-
Happy reading
ps I just got 5 more books for Christmas. LOL All fiction LOL

Dez. 26, 2013, 7:05 am

Many of us start reading a book before the 'proper' month or year just so we finish it for the time frame of our challenge rules. Go for it! But it is your challenge so you get to make the rules!

7LadyBookworth
Dez. 26, 2013, 4:57 pm

Hey, thanks majkia .I guess I just wanted to do it right. :-}

Dez. 26, 2013, 6:55 pm

Wow, you picked some heavy duty reads to start with! Luckily they're both really good! My own personal rule is that the books counts when it's finished. So I try to start a lot of books this week! But the first rule is: There are no rules! Have a fun reading year!

9LadyBookworth
Dez. 27, 2013, 12:58 am

Your right tloeffer! They are heavy! LOL
I have Mists of Avalon earmarked for June. It will be holidays and since it looks like we are now staying home , and it's cold. A perfect long read under the blanket.{smile}

So off side -how many books exactly have you started??? Happy reading!

I like your introduction message. You know what's funny? I can remember when I thought nonfiction was boring! Ha! Now I can't believe I used to be that person, but it's like you said. It gets hard sometimes to read fiction, even when I know it's going to be good fiction. Good luck to you on your upcoming fictionfull year.

Dez. 27, 2013, 1:08 am

I made up the word 'fictionfull' and am now sitting here wondering if I spelled it correctly. 'Fictionful' looks better, doesn't it?

12LadyBookworth
Dez. 27, 2013, 2:48 am

Hi Merryann- up until I stopped working there was only time for a quick Mills and Boon -I used to get them delivered!-
And then I stopped working found Amazon and WOW . Hubby jokes I should have been a researcher! At the moment the house is overflowing with knitting books! LOVE non fiction!But I really want to read those novels-in fact did a deal with hubby for every 5 books read I get a new whatever my latest thing is Hahaha

He still thinks I'll break before the end of Jan...
And yep 'Fictionful' does look better -it reminds me of beautiful ..Beautiful books- yep got it in one!
Happy reading!!

Hello Lady & good luck with your challenge. I loved Pillars of the Earth when I read it a few years ago. It's pretty fascinating & a lot of the technical part of the story is based on fact so I think you will like it a lot.

Well in the end Connie, because it was my anniversary then followed by Valentines day -I read "Expecting his Royal baby" book 5 in the "The Royal House of Niroli" series. Overall a enjoyable read.

Hey Thanks rabbitprincess!

Finished my first one for April Debbie Macomber's "Hannah's List."
Got this last year as a gift as I had read the others in the "Blossom Street "series. Must say the premise of a dead wife saying here are three women-now pick one to live happily ever after with.Really didn't do it for me. Personally I would want my husband to wait at least 5, better 10 years before he thought about dating again. But that is just me. The story it's self was alright. And now that I've read it, I can pass it on without the guilt :+}Yah space in the bookcase!

Now to choose something else...
Happy reading all!

ps have updated my ticker
ps the edit was about the ticker lol

Hi all! Thanks tess and connie for the encouragement!

So this month my 2 roots were in fact non fiction I wasn't going to include them but dang they are still roots! :+}
They were
Manage your day to day- build your routine , find your focus and sharpen your creative mind. Loved this book. It got me thinking what I want from life. More on that in a minute.
And
Magical clutter clearing boot camp. It was not what I expected.

Now this first book got me thinking and I have decided to go back and finish my diploma! Whoo whoo! Classes start next monday.And on monday I picked up the "required reading". What I ask you,have I done??Any way I have decided I need to stop this challenge in order to get my subjects done.
I was on track, but there is no way I can read another 8 books between now and the end of the year. On another note according to my list I read 29 books in 2013 and so far this year 28. WOW!! So thanks to the group!!!

I have updated my ticker. Should I adjust in to a total of 17??
Happy reading everyone and I will also though, continue to read this board.

53connie53
Sept. 1, 2014, 3:02 pm

Very good reason to stop the challenge, LadyB. I hope you will pass every exam in the future. Please visit us and tell us you about the progress and the diploma! I really want to know.

And maybe you can tell cyderry you stopped in the August or September thread?

54Tess_W
Sept. 1, 2014, 4:57 pm

You will still be reading, just different things! My reading slows down significantly each August when I return to school. Good luck with your classes!

Thank you both for the good luck. I feel i'll need all I can get!

Connie I've decided to stay with the challenge _I'll just see how I go. I might find myself just reading the mills and boons that are on the shelf. LOL they will be a much needed distraction!

Hi everyone!
So am wondering if doing this diploma is a good idea.And was bemoaning to dear hubby "What is my purpose in life?" When he then went to our library and pulled this from the shelves.- The book case that isn't in here yet- I will get to it! lol
S.H.A.P.E finding and fulfilling your unique purpose for life by Erik Rees I bought this just after our youngest was born. - There has got to be more to life than changing nappies-right?And here she is now 8 and I've finally read it. And no -still don't know the answer!! lol

I have updated my ticker.
Happy reading to all!

62LadyBookworth
Okt. 21, 2014, 7:50 pm

Hi Tess unfortunately the diploma is just for me. Nada on the future income. I't's actually on religion- a pet topic of mine- so I'm doing it for interest sake only.Hence the length of time it has taken!

Now to go and finish my root.

Happy reading to all!

63LadyBookworth
Okt. 22, 2014, 9:20 pm

Hi all

Okay, so after being in a root reading funk. So much to read -what to read??Decisions to be made....

i came across a QUIZ: WHAT'S YOUR READING PERSONALITY? on the Oprah website. Of course I couldn't resist! :+}

And got: The Starry-Eyed Romantic ....yep me to tee.. and yet my shelves are full of books people have recommended or that sounds nice or bought for bookclub I stopped going after 5 months- didn't like the chooses/books but continue to buy the books} I also have a ton of mills and boon /romance that dh,kids and I have bought over time. And I realized looking at my books it wasn't so much as a funk as in a " I should" eg read Memoirs of a geisha { started it ,hated it, never finished it,but people rave about it and some high schools here teach it {!}It was on my list to read but....just couldn't bring myself. and I realized those books aren't me. I like romance/love stories.I should read what I like.That was a freeing moment.So from now no more novel buying till all my love stories have been read. And I have shelves!!LOL Not unless a new mills and boon takes my fancy!!

So my 2 roots this month are
And the Bride Wore Red -had this since 2010
The Frenchman's Plain Jane Project -had this since 2009
both Mills and Boon

Would be interested to know what you all got-if you took the test.I got DH to take it and he ended up with "philosophy" - he had even read/has several of the books listed! It was spot on!

Happy reading to all, and my ticker has been updated.

Okt. 23, 2014, 3:57 am

I checked up the Oprah quiz and got the Philosopher, which may have been due to the fact that for most questions none of the suggested answers really applied to me. (Being neither in a book club nor a mother).

Here's another one: https://www.bookbrowse.com/quiz/. I'm "Eclectic", which sums me up very nicely.

66LadyBookworth
Okt. 23, 2014, 8:04 pm

Hi MissWatson

Thanks for the link to the quiz!
I got
The All-Rounder

"Your responses showed you fitting equally into all four reading personalities' Lol But yes it sounds right.

Last night I got the 16 year old to do the Oprah quiz and she got
The Aesthete. Summed her up to tee!So for xmas, no novel but a book voucher-she can choose her own!

Happy reading all
