From the Series Description it sounds like it should be a publishers series.

Well, I'm not so sure. In the French-speaking world, "Les voyages extraordinaires" is broadly accepted as a series that contains most if not all of Jules Verne's works - regardless of edition.

Hetzel in France was certainly the first publisher for most, if not all, of these books. However, it was not limited to them. Many titles were reprinted by many different publishers.
But, I agree that it has more of a publisher series feel to it in general.

Like Felagund, I've heard Verne's works referred to in this way, regardless of edition. The quote proves that it was meant to be a series when they were written.
The problem is that it ends up being an ordered list of Verne's writings. And it's entered on the English site where we don't usually think of these books in that way.

One bad effect, at least in this case, of being a series is that after one of these works is recommended it won't recommend any further works in the same series.

That's not true; every book recommended on the GURPS Arabian Nights recommendation page is in the same series as it. They're sort of lumped together on the main page, but that doesn't completely stop it. What's more, in this case, is that it is usually limited down to 3 copies from each author; looking at The Best of Isaac Asimov recommendation page, you'll notice that it's not in a series, but each recommendation list starts with 3 or 4 of Asimov's (most of them are limited to 3, but tags seems to go to four) and then go to other authors, not mentioning Isaac Asimov again. So series or no won't affect the recommendations much.
