Do you have a preferred tiki cocktail book? There are so many in print right now that look great (Beachbum Berry, Trader Vic's, Frankie's Tiki Room), but I'm keen to keep my collection on the subject to a volume rather than a shelf.

I'm most interested in background, history, and instruction above just recipes. I went to a fantastic tiki bar pop-up last night I'm determined to perfect my own Painkiller before summer is out.

The only tiki recipe books I can recommend are those I've already listed on the book thread here, but I found this recipe for a Painkiller from Pusser's Rum, and it does come with a little backstory. I'll probably be trying this out myself.

Ha, great. I've been making Painkillers straight through the past two weeks. I just bought a new bottle of Pusser's tonight, because this train is not going to stop!

Here's a brief look at tiki culture from the author of several books on the genre.

I've acquired a few of Sven Kirsten's books in recent months.

I've had his The Book of Tiki for many years. I bought it on a whim but it got me started on tiki culture.

There have been several references to The Book of Tiki on LT lately, so I went to get mine off the shelf, but it seems to have walked off. Grrr.

I highly recommend Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki to anyone interested in tiki, its history or anyone in need of unique cocktail recipes. There's also quite a bit of info about the history and makers of rum. The photos throughout are fantastic.
