Former Soviet and Georgian politician Eduard Shevardnadze died July 7 at the age of 86. He was the author of The Future Belongs to Freedom.

Historian of art and fashion Anne Hollander died July 6 at the age of 83. A few of her books include Sex and Suits, Seeing Through Clothes and Feeding the Eye.

The woman who launched many a model's career Eileen Ford died July 9 at the age of 92. Her books include Eileen Ford's Book of Model Beauty and Eileen Ford's A More Beautiful You in 21 Days.

Prolific author who challenged Apartheid, Nadine Gordimer died July 13 at the age of 90. Her best known books include July's People, Burger's Daughter and The Pickup.
