Sand storm!

I got to the part that he figures out about the sandstorm but went on vacation and left the book behind! Someone tell me what he does!

The Martian is an excellent book! I hope you can finish reading it soon. All I'll tell you is this: Mark Watney is an ingenious problem-solver. Enjoy!

I loved this book! The combination of science, pacing, even character definition, was engrossing. I bought it in an airport book store on a business trip, and - suffice it to say - I did not spend any time watching CNN on that trip!

I also have to hand it to the graphic designer who did the dust cover for the book.
What a compelling picture on the front!

I listened to the audio book, and it too was the best production I've heard in a while. I understand it's been nominated for an Audie.

Movie rights have been purchased as well. So far, Ridley Scott will be the director and Matt Damon the Martian. IMHO Matt Damon is not Mark Watney.

I was hoping for someone nerdier. Justin Long. Alan Tudyk. Zachary Quinto. Jim Parsons. Matt Lewis. Simon Pegg if he was a hair less nerdy. Rupert Grint? Eh. Not sure he could pull it off...but maybe. Matthew Gray Gubler. He could pull it off.

I also agree that I cannot really imagine Matt Damon as Watney.

For me the charm of the book was Watney's resourcefulness and his self-deprecating manner. The latter is my favorite, and I am quite curious to see how (or whether) they are going to pull it off on screen.

Maybe they'll give Mark a Wilson to talk to :)

The movie release date in Canada and USA is October 02.
