Hi,
thinking about using Libary Thing for my church library but I am not sure how it works...do church members have to join Library Thing to search my church catalog? and if so, how do they connect with the church's account?
Has anyone found this system to work really well for their church library? Ours is small and no computer right now so I was hoping to use this site and also print out a hard copy. Just trying to figure out how it works exactly.
Thanks!

Hi, Jody -

I can't answer your second question, but as to the first: no, your church members don't need to join to search the church's catalog. All they need to do that is the link to it: (yours, for instance, is http://www.librarything.com/catalog/JodyLink). They can then search within that catalog.

I'm cataloging a church library on LT that doesn't have a computer but does have an old card catalog that I'm updating. See my messages (in this group) "LT + card catalog in church library" for detailed instructions on how to do this. If you just decide to print a book catalog instead of cards, there is a print icon at the top of the LT page "Your Books" that you can click (but first select the format style you want displayed -- Letters A,B,C,D, or E). Then all you have to do is print the list, punch holes & put it in a looseleaf binder to be kept in your church library. This option works well if your collection is small & you're not adding to it every week; otherwise it's too hard to keep up-to-date. Hope my advice helps -- Let me know if you have any questions.
