Thanks everyone! So far, I'm reading very fast, but I'm trying to cram as much reading into the first half of the year because I have a huge life change coming up in early summer. ;-)

>7 Tess_W:, Tess, I'm having a baby in July. I was afraid to say anything until I got past the first trimester and had all of the tests since I'm well over 35. The baby looks healthy from all the tests we've had and is currently kicking me. ;-)

Many congratulations Quaisior! And good luck - I had my little girl just over a year ago, at the age of 44 (me, not her, obviously!!!), and apart from the docs treating me like I was a walking health and safety disaster-just-waiting-to-happen it all ended up well and she is now a healthy happy nearly-16 month old.

> 11, 12, and 13: Thank you all.

> 14, That is so reassuring and congratulations! I go to a group midwife practice and they have been wonderful, but I've seen a maternal fetal medicine specialist too because of my age and because I have Crohn's disease (in remission). I also have a gastro doctor keeping an eye on me throughout the last few months of my pregnancy. I feel like it's all a bit of overkill since everything is going so well, honestly. The only issue either the baby or I have is a bit more fluid in the baby's right kidney than they would like to see, but it could resolve itself before the baby is born. I'm having another ultrasound next month to follow up and see how the kidney is doing. One thing both the MFM and the midwives stressed is that this kidney issue is very common and normally isn't a problem once the baby is born. There are no other markers for any birth defects, so we decided against amniocentesis, especially since there's a small risk of miscarriage from amnio and I lost a baby in 2013, so I don't want to take that risk.

>15 Quaisior: I was in the same position re amnio - I never intended to have it anyway, because of the miscarriage risk, but luckily the non-(or rather less-)invasive tests (bloods/nuchal scan) showed nothing scary so I didn't feel like I was missing out not having the amnio (especially as even after it the results seem pretty vague still). I'm glad that your docs and midwives are good - sometimes it really does feel like overkill, but I had to remind myself when I was getting fed up with it that I was so lucky to be living somewhere where those services were available and that there were all these people looking out for me (which is just as well, as I ended up with horrific hypertension and ended up having to be induced early). I could have been living in Syria, or Palestine, or who knows where where this level of observation and treatment just wouldn't have been available even if I had needed it.

I hope that the reading you have chosen is proving reassuring and not the opposite! :)

>17 avanders: Thank you. I had my baby on July 10th (she was actually born on her due date!). I had gestational diabetes, but it didn't lead to any complications, although I did need to have a C-section because of my baby's heart rate, but my midwife was able to stay with me and assist with the surgery. Everything worked out well though and I have a healthy baby girl. Recovery from the C-section has been much easier than when I had a bowel obstruction, but it made things like picking my baby up and feeding her complicated and painful for the first few weeks.

Thank you all so much and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. I never realized until I had a baby how much time I would spend nursing her. Also, she is an extreme night owl, so we are up all night and sleep half the day most of the time. But she's doing very well, growing so fast, and she's almost crawling now. She loves books, which makes me so happy and proud. Her favorites so far are Winnie the Pooh: Pooh Can Can You? and Moo, Baa, La La La!.

I finally updated my lists and will do a post for the new year next.
