Greetings,

I just got my CueCat today. When I read the numbers into LibraryThing, I get nothing in response. When I checked the output I was creating in The CueCat Decoder site, it told me that the check digit for everything everything I had entered was "invalid". I note, however, that the barcode value matches the one on the label -- and when I enter the translated version into LibraryThing, everything works just fine.

Am I doing something wrong -- or is the CueCat misbehaving in some way?

Perhaps declawing it would help?

Many thanks.

Virtually yours, Julie

The CueCat decoder will probably report the check digit is incorrect because of the way ISBNs are calculated. The code hidden in those lines is a 13-digit ISBN-like number for books prior to 2007. And that number is computed differently than a "normal" pre-2007 ISBN.

When you're at the "Add books" screen in LibraryThing, are you sure your cursor is inside the white box before you scan? Every once in a while, I have to click directly inside, then scan a barcode. Other times, the box seems to be selected already.

Try scanning barcodes into Notepad or even Microsoft Word. That may narrow down where the problem might be.

Update: Under the heading of "Go Figure" today I am very happy to report that I've had no trouble whatsoever. I don't know if it was rebooting the machine -- maybe something got screwy with Internet Explorer (it is always so easy to blame) or maybe it was because I tried another USB port.

Isn't technology wonderful? ;-)Legallypuzzled, thank you for your help.
