Last night I watched a 1998 DVD of operatic choruses performed by Opera Australia--this one, if you can see the Netflix listing (I can't find it on IMDb):

It included well-known choruses from "La Bohème," "Madama Butterfly," "Tosca," "Aida," "Nabucco," "Il Trovatore," "Orphée et Eurydice," "Cavalleria Rusticana," and "Turandot."

I enjoyed the music, although the production and sound quality weren't the greatest, but what struck me the most was the unusual staging. I couldn't catch a name in the credits, and Google didn't help much, but I had the impression that they were all designed by the same person, someone who went in for a lot of lighting effects and gestural accompaniment. I didn't necessarily like all of it--some was very distracting--but it did catch my attention and make me curious.

I was wondering if anyone here has actually attended performances at the Sydney Opera House, especially during the mid- to late 90's when this collection was made, and can say anything about the production designer and his or her reputation.
