Late getting started with the group, but I have ROOT'd out a few so far in 2015. I'll try to get a list compiled here soon.
I'm keeping my usual goal of reading (or rejecting) at least 35 books off my own shelves, with the qualifying criteria being that the book has been in my possession, unread, for at least a year. I will add that any book I read and remove from my library will also count toward this total, no matter how long I've had it. The ultimate goal for me is to buy fewer books, and eliminate some of my backlog of TBR's. But if I can actually reduce the number of books in the house too, that's an extra bonus. I'm going to create a third category this year, with its own ticker---books culled from my shelves, whether I've read them or not. This will include books that have been read and are hanging around, but are unlikely ever to be re-read; books I've discovered I have more than one copy or edition of (although I do intentionally keep some multiples); books duplicated by my fairly recent acquisition of the Library of America collection and anything I else I feel like clearing out. There will be some overlap with the 35-book goal, here. I'll tentatively say I intend to remove at least 100 books from the house in 2015. I have a pretty good start on that already, I think, but the tabulation will take a while.
EDIT: I figure I've removed 47 books from the house since the beginning of 2015. So I'm on target to get to 100 by the end of the year, I think.
Here's my ticker for that project:

Welcome back and good luck with the culling!

Welcome back. Culling 100 books is an ambitious target!

I think my tickers are up to date now...I had forgotten to add a few books that I sent to the library book sale to my "Culled" ticker.

Finished one more ROOT, Crazy Horse by Larry McMurtry. I thought I might cull this one too, but am still thinking about that. It's a nice Penguin small format hardcover...

I agree, Connie. I decided it's lovely, and it takes up very little space, and I'm going to keep it.

Just finished my 26th ROOT, Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, by Barbara Kingsolver. It's a keeper, and very appropriate for this challenge, since I've had it forever (OK, since it came out, in 2007 or 2008), and there's quite a lot in it about..."roots"!

I finished a Graham Greene novel for the British Authors Challenge, and it's been on my shelves for at least 10 years. That makes a total of 5 ROOTS for me this month. Woot!

>13 laytonwoman3rd: It always feels extra good when the ROOT has be languishing for that long!

Two ROOTS so far for September (neither of which will be leaving my library), Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor, and Flannery O'Connor, A Memorial, both in conjunction with the American Author Challenge, where O'Connor is the author of the month.

>17 avanders: That's right...for the reading. I'd like to meet that CULL goal, but that's looking less likely. I set the bar pretty high for that one.

>18 laytonwoman3rd: What is your goal for CULL, Linda? And how far along are you with that?

>19 connie53: My tickers are in the first post, Connie. I hoped to move 100 books out of the house this year; I've made it to 53 so far. Unfortunately, my goal of not bringing a lot of books INTO the house this year has fallen by the way also. I didn't set any numerical limit on that, but I have been keeping track of my new acquisitions, and it isn't pretty--something in the vicinity of 90 new books so far. I think I'm beyond help!

>20 laytonwoman3rd: I should have looked in the first post! That's where I put my tickers and lists too!

>20 laytonwoman3rd: I know that feeling of being beyond hope, Linda. I still have my ticker for acquiring books up and I was at 102 at the end of August. Many of the books I have acquired while traveling have been read and left along the way so that will help the actual numbers in to the house somewhat but then there were those 2 packages of books that I sent home by post *sigh*.

I finished my first October ROOT, Kingfishers Catch Fire by Rumer Godden.
24laytonwoman3rd
Another ROOT read this month, A Spell of Winter by Helen Dunmore. Thoughts over on my reading thread.
25laytonwoman3rd
Met my ROOT reading goal by finishing A Legacy by Sybille Bedford and The Fugitive Wife by Peter C. Brown. As for the culling....I'm not going to meet that goal, I'm afraid. But I have removed a few more, and the year's not over yet!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

I finished another ROOT, Leave it to Psmith by P. G. Wodehouse, and had a lot of fun with it.
