Hi! I'm pretty new using the LibraryThing regularly, but from the bit I've scrolled through this group, I think it's a good fit! I'm studying to be a librarian, and between working in a library and not being able to stay out of book stores, I've got a lot of accumulated unread books around my apartment, on top of the ones that make it home with me from work. SO: for the rest of the year, I'm going to try and read at least ten of my unread books! The titles are:
1. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
2. Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett
3. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
4. The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
5. Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple
6. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
7. Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer
8. The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami
9. The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani
10. Redwall by Brian Jacques

Am I doing this right? I'm not sure if I'm quite "in" on the group culture yet, but this seems like a pretty happy corner of the internet. Is anyone else reading any of these titles? I can't wait to get started! I'm currently reading The Fifth Wave-very creepy! :)

Welcome! You're doing great. :) I like your description of this group -- it is very appropriate!

You may want to drop a note on the June progress thread as well to make sure your goal is included in the group total: http://www.librarything.com/topic/191621

Many people use their own personal "tickers" to keep track of their reading, but it's not mandatory to have one. As long as you leave a comment on the monthly progress thread whenever you finish a book, the numbers will get sorted out.

If you do want to have a ticker and need instructions, let us know and we'll help you out.

PS I am glad to see Redwall on your list! One of these days I'll read all the books in the series.

Welcome to the group! I've got The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in my TBR (to be read) pile, also!

Welcome & good luck w/ your ROOTs! "this seems like a pretty happy corner of the internet" I tend to agree! :)
And you're doing great setting up your ROOT page/goal! Tickers are super easy, if you decide you want to do that. Anyone can help w/ how to get that started :)
Looks like you have a great list going! Where'd You Go Bernadette was a really fun read! And I really enjoyed The Strange Library -- have you read any other of Murakami's books yet? That was my first..

Whoo! I'll go over to the July board, now that the month's changed. Where is this year going?!
And a ticker might be fun-what should I do to get one?

avanders, I've read several Murakami books! I read Norwegian Wood first, then Kafka on the Shore, which was probably my favorite. I've also read 1Q84. I really like his stuff!

If you'd like a ticker, here's how to go about getting one:

1) Go to www.tickerfactory.com
2) In the list of ticker types, choose either an Objects/Actions Counter or one of the Debt Reduction/Savings counters.
3) Choose a ticker ruler and slider
4) On the setup page, enter a password for your ticker, your goal, your progress to date, and a title for your ticker (e.g. Dandeggan's ROOTS).
5) Click Save to save your ticker.

You will now be on a page with several text boxes filled with code. To display the ticker on your LT thread, copy the code found in the text box labelled "HTML" and paste it into a post on your thread.

To update your ticker:

1) Click on the ticker to go to the Ticker Factory page
2) Click Edit/Update Data and Style
3) Enter your password from when you created your ticker, and update your progress
4) Click Next. Your ticker will now be updated. You don't need to go through the ruler and slider pages again, unless you want to change them of course :)

Hope this helps!

>5 Dandeggan: sweet! Kafka on the Shore & 1Q84 happen to be the 2 of his books that I'm most excited to read! Well, and also Colorless Tsukuru.... :)

Welcome DD, (I tend to shorten names, do you notice?) I hope you have a good time here!

Another suggestion is to copy the HTML code in your first post (you can edit posts) so it will be easy to find for you and for us.

It's also recommended to copy the code to the ticker thread. http://www.librarything.nl/topic/184737 . Just to help Cyderry with the numbers.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Equal rites
